I love seeing how different our reactions to specific songs are. I REALLY don't like Darkness at the Door (my new least fave Editors song, replacing the falsetto nightmare of Our Love) but I keep finding it stuck in my head. The end of Counting Spooks and the chorus of Nothingness both feel way too disco and wrong. But I could listen to Violence (which, granted, was also a HELL of a lot better live) and Belong and Hallelujah on repeat all day. Not that I've basically been doing that since yesterday morning...

The only niggle with Belong is the cheap-o dubstep snare it has - other than that, great song. All of the are earworms, more or less.

When We Were Angels is very bowieesque, isn't it?

Dubstep snares is a problem the record on the whole has imo Sorry but where else do you hear them? This one is the only one I think is too simple of a sound, too cheap to be on an Editors record - others are well produced. You can hear (albeit slightly) that Belong was self-produced.

I relented, I listened. I was trying to hold off until I'm on my way to see them in Roubaix, but when I opened the post to the beautiful deluxe edition, I couldn't resist.
I'm not going to say it's perfect, but nor do I think it's constructive to nitpick at things which will almost certainly grow on me with repeated listens (of which there will be many). For now, I LOVE Cold, Violence and... Am I the only one who thinks the studio version of The Pulse is just incredible?? It's possibly cause I was forewarned about the lack of guitars so I was expecting to be dissappointed, then what I heard turned out to be a very pleasant surprise.
It's easy to forget them cause they're both a little more familiar, but hearing Hallelujah and Magazine as part of the body of work also reaffirmed what great songs I think they are.
Now, if I really can hold off until Friday to listen again, the rush in my chest of anticipation for hearing these songs again is something I'm going to enjoy living with for the next few days!

I enjoy the track, and think its a pretty good transition from what was previewed live (its not a 'nothing')- maybe didn't have to dump the guitar hook (could be in the other version).
I think however it had hints of brilliance that could have evolved into something really epic and it didn't. The chorus is not nearly as good as the pre-chorus building the anticipation right up to I'm a war machine.... Structurally its different to most editors songs. Glad they are having ago at playing around with 'the formula' a bit at this stage of the career. Could have been bad, could have been a career defining track, ended up somewhere in the middle IMO.

This album is not good.Sorry. I didn't want to write here anything, I'm not very active on here and just writing only negative stuff is not what I want to do right now. Anyway, on the plus: Cold, Violence and The Pulse. Probably going to like some more songs when I've heard them live end of the month. They will win me back over, I'm sure, they always do

This album is not good.Sorry. Who are you apologizing to? Us mortals who are wrong? With the shitty weather gone I'm enjoying it more and more - tracks like Nothingness are very summer-y. If not Violence, this should(!) be the next single.

The guitar solo in Nothingness keeps popping up in my head I'm imagining a video with sunset being the main focus somehow, a desert maybe..but all done in a peculiar style courtesy of Mr. Rezvani.
