Despite many moans and groans about the set earlier in this thread, Birmingham was absolutely fantastic. Great to see the venue packed to the rafters. Because we arrived at the gig only 15 minutes before the start we were stuck towards the sides for the first couple of songs where the crowd was very static. Managed to push our way to the front to join a lively pocket of 'up for it' fans and ended up with a full pint of dark fruit cider all over my pearly white New Order shirt. Still, at least that forced me into buying the long sleeve 'rewind' shirt.
Was nice to see the Formaldehyde debut on the UK tour (even if I am sick and tired of that one). Although TWOYL is their weakest album IMO, I'd still love to hear Two Hearted Spider, Hyena, Bird of Prey.
I wonder if Editors have the ability to sell out an arena yet. Obviously they fill up the Sportspaleis, Milan Forum, Ziggodome... But over here if they decided to miss out all of the smaller cities, and did say only London and Birmingham, would they have the fan base to fill it up?

Another great show and what a beautiful venue! My partner and I were dead centre, second row. Nice to see Tom do his thing up close but also had a better view of all band members compared to the Bristol show earlier on the tour. Nice to hear a few different numbers by the band and crowd certainly got going toward the end but possibly not as much as Bristol. It was interesting and pleasant to hear so many European tongues in the audience as I know editors have a huge European fan base; kind of makes sense that somewhere as multicultural as Brighton would give those living in the UK a chance to see them. Hope that makes sense? I’m reading it through and not even sure if it does! As mentioned by someone else, kudos to manfromdelmonte for watching the whole tour and giving us updates. I hope the Brixton show is good to you all! Joe That must be fun! Does it at all get boring seeing the same setlist? Do you watch Takis every night too? I guess you notice more about each performance each night. How was Brighton for everyone? I loved it! It felt like it took the crowd a while to warm up but I didn’t care about that. First time seeing the Violence songs live and was very impressed! Such powerful songs/sounds. Darkness At The Door was particularly impressive and they seem to really enjoy playing that one. Actually made some of The Back Room songs feel a bit tired. Although I thought Bullets sounded awesome! That must be fun! Does it at all get boring seeing the same setlist? Joe I was probably stood very close to you. I was second row but to the right in front of Russ. Glad it was worth the trip!
TheBoxer - I can’t see them doing arenas here again. I think the only time I can remember them playing large venues in the Uk was spring 2008 when they did the NIA in Birmingham and 2 dates at Alexandra Palace. I was shocked to read Ally Pally has a capacity of over 10k though it is 10 years since I last went there. I remember they didn’t sell out the NIA but I seem to recall it was reported they sold about 13k tickets which is pretty impressive for a band who were popular but never darlings of the press. Considering that was the peak of their popularity they just wouldn’t get those kind of crowds these days. They haven’t sold out Brixton Academy tonight. I remember them doing 3 nights in the summer of 2006 all of which sold out very quickly.
As a band though they have maintained popularity and a hardcore fan base for a sustained period of time. Of the indie scene who emerged in 2004/2005 only Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs could really be seen to have had the same level or greater continued success on a commercial level. Considering that Editors have never had that much support from the press, tv or radio I think it is testament to what a great band they are and how much they mean to the people who follow them.

Are Kaiser Chiefs still big in the UK? In mainland europe they went from festival subheadliners or so to early afternoon band around the time Editors moved into the other direction
Brixton is pretty much sold out, this morning I read there were 20 tickets left so it’s possible they’re all gone by now

Kaiser Chiefs still occasionally play arenas here. They had a bit of commercial renaissance when Ricky Wilson was a judge on some BBC talent show. They’ve done nothing decent since the second album though.
Brixton Academy should be great tonight. Never seen a poor gig here though tbf most of my visits there have been Editors. I reckon I must have seen the band there more than any other venue.

I could smell that fruitiness from where I was standing, I wondered if they’d used some kind of blackcurrant vape derivative for the dry ice!

Quite a good crowd here already. Got my usual position to the right. Let’s hope this tour goes out with a bang!

I’m shattered too and I really wonder how you did this almost every night the past 3 weeks! Holy cow what a gig
The Boxer killed me, as did Open Your Arms followed by Violence into No Harm

It’s great to hear everyone has enjoyed the last three weeks shows so much. I’ve had a brilliant time. I’m just jealous now of people going to the European shows before Christmas. Hopefully we’ll get to see them again sometime next year maybe at a couple of festivals.
In the meantime I’ve got a few dates in my diary for gigs over the next month. Some old favourites like Johnny Marr and House of Love and great new acts like Hatchie, Swimming Tapes and Orielles. There’s still plenty to look forward to.

I should also say how much I enjoyed Talos as a support act. Whilst not as great as Twilight Sad in 2015 (that was one hell of a line up each night), I made sure I watched them each evening. They are certainly a band I would like to see again if they are playing in Birmingham.

That guy’s got quite a good voice and the percussionist was interesting to watch when he morphed into Animal from The Muppet Show about every 5 minutes haha. They narrowly beat Balthazar for me (& The Twilight Sad are still the winners)
