Editors singer Tom Smith plans to write band's new album in remote locationEDITORS singer Tom Smith is planning to leave behind wife Edith Bowman and their two sons to make the band’s next album somewhere remote.Tom, 33, told me: “We’ll hide ourselves in somewhere like Mull and work 24 hours a day for a short period.
“We’ll hide ourselves in somewhere like Mull and work 24 hours a day for a short period ”
We had two new members before our last album, so it was natural to think: ‘We need to be a rock band, there’s no time for experimenting.’”
Having stormed Latitude’s main stage on Friday, the five-piece begin recording in September.

Wow, that sound weird! There will be some truth in it. I think we'll have to wait and see ...

Could be, but it's great we at least have some idea of what happens next I have the feeling all those live shows and the new songs being received well live got them inspired. Plus now they truly start from a scratch as a five-member band.

5-member band hmmmm but Elliott has his own project and I think they plan another change. Maybe Nick is the new Elliott? What do You think?

What do you mean by another change?
I really have no idea about the whole Nick/Elliott situation. Nick has side projects (two actually) just like Elliott does. Elliott won't be on tour for that long so they can fit in band sessions. The question is though how successful Y.O.U gets I guess.

Elliott's on tour with Y.O.U. supporting The 1975 from 21st September to pretty much the end of October, so I'd be very surprised if he's joining them for these September sessions, whatever they are (band writing / rehearsing / recording).
I wouldn't be surprised if Elliott joins them again at some point in the future (all depending on how Y.O.U. does), but I reckon they'll be a four-piece for these sessions, with an additional member (Nick?) maybe filling out the sound live.
That said, what are people expecting? A grittier, guitar-led record? Something inspired by the craggy Scottish scenary? Something more like The National? None of the above?!

I think they will start working as a 4-piece and Elliot will join in later after his tour. If I remember it right Tom said about the last record that Elliot was especially good in completing the songs with some extra melodies. So they can start without him and see what happens ...

On another note, you can tell this snippet comes from a tabloid. Tom's not just going away to work on music, you know, like bands do. He's leaving Edith and the kids BEHIND! Squeeze all the drama you can out of it guys.

Yeah, it does seem that this upcoming session they keep mentioning won't involve Elliott. But it'll take much more than just this one session, so there's plenty of time for him to join them before the album is finished. Something inspired by the craggy Scottish scenary? I love that thought! I think I remember Tom saying that The Phone Book and Bird Of Prey are pretty much the sound they feel like exploring more for their next record. I have no idea where I read it though...
