We haven't heard LP5 yet. Kele and Russ may surprise us.

Russell and Kele are still together, and Kele has announced a 5th album and a new song, so something is going to happen.

The new Bloc Party single is... not so good

The guitar sound created (that's the thing which sounds like synths) is really...unappealing...rather horrible on the ear.
The chorus, vocals and lyrics are good.

So this is already disliked by 45% of youtube viewers and holds a pathetic average of 1.10/5 on rym. Yikes. Bloc's in trouble...

Wow, thats really weird. Altough I don't like Kele's solo work, I do like his voice. This song would work very well acousticly, or maybe even acapella. But this is a strange sound. And not in a good way.

Really like the new Bloc Party single. Admittedly, when I first heard it I had a moment of thinking 'wtf is this?', but then on second hearing I loved it. I can even get passed that whirring sound that plays throughout the verse.
I find it really uplifting and, appropriately considering the album title, hymnal. But, as some of you will have spotted from my defensiveness about Editors taking new directions, I like it when bands shake things up a bit.
On that note, I was listening to Bombay Bicycle Club's last album on the way into work this morning. Now there's an example of a band who've evolved really well. So Long, See You Tomorrow sounds totally different from their first album, and they won a lot of new attention with that record, but, as far as I'm aware, most of their original fans have stayed with them as they've evolved... Although I do remember some consternation when It's Alright Now first came out.
Is that too off topic?! Maybe BBC should have their own thread...

Absolutely adore the new single. I'm looking forward to the album more than I was looking forward to In Dream. Maybe because Bloc Party are evolving just as much as Editors are evolving but in the other direction. They decided to move away from the middle of the road whereas Editors couldn't be any more middle of the road.

I'm surprised by how good Hymns turned out.

I'm surprised by how good Hymns turned out. Yeah, I had such low expectations so with the album being 'alright' means I'm feeling kinda positive overall. Only He Can Heal Me, Different Drugs, Living Lux and Eden are personal favourites. I love the sorta ambient-house-music they did on some of the album

Including TLW over Eden is one of the most baffling things Bloc Party have ever done. I know I give bands shit all the time for including mediocre album tracks over brilliant b-sides, but this is seriously the worst example I can think of.
