Halfway through and Darkness + Nothingness are the most generic Editors have ever sounded (after a pretty great opening trio). Thankfully Magazine comes to save the mood, hopefully the last three have something in store. The last three songs were my favourites on first listen, so you might be in luck I'm in for a treat then! I'm at Magazine and I loved everything until now!

So far: Cold - meh Hallelujah - alright violence - alright darkness at the door - terrible nothingness - terrible(less terrible after a few listens, I guess it's that sort of pop I might be ok with) magazine - terrible no sound - knew it already, ok i guess counting spooks - great belong - great the pulse - meh when we were angels - meh It's pretty bad for me.

Wish other tracks had as much breathing space as Counting Spooks outro. Everything sounds a bit too cluttered, not that impressed for starters.
Cold - 8/10 Hallelujah (So Low) - 9/10 Violence - 10/10 Darkness At The Door - 4/10 Nothingness - 5/10 Magazine - 8/10 NSBTW - 7/10 Counting Spooks - 10/10 Belong - 7/10
68/90 - 75%
The Pulse 9/10 When We Were Angels 6/10
So put these two on the album instead of the two stinkers and it becomes a solid 83%.
My least favourite thing about it is how terribly uplifting and pop it sounds and the over-use of millenial whoops and the like...ooh ooh, heys etc.
Violence and Counting Spooks go into the classics book right away, as does Hallelujah.

I'm gonna listen to this a few more times and post a review after uni sometime tomorrow. My opinions may change between now and then. But before I do, I just want everyone to know that despite my cynical and sarcastic nature I'm actually a huge fan of Editors. I legitimately want to enjoy everything they put out, and I don't get any pleasure out of being negative towards them. But the fact I've felt compelled to write this disclaimer says it all. I am a fan of them too obviously, but I'm not one of those people that will praise anything and everything they produce. This might be the album with the least favorite tracks for me, out of their entire discography.

guys you're making me scared Hah, it's not terrible, but I believe this album is the most "pop" they ever sounded, and that's what turns me off from most of the songs. I don't have a problem with them going electronic(I really liked InDream), but I wish they would've gone more experimental electronic, than pop electronic.

Counting Spooks and Belong are actually my least favorite until now (Shoot me ) The Pulse really misses those guitars from the live version! Glad it did not make it onto the actual album.

As an album, I'm not sure yet...I like it but some parts caught me off guard. Title track is by far the biggest stand out for me. I hear lots of 80s inspired sounds, primarily a heavy Depeche Mode influence on tracks such as Violence, Counting Spooks and Belong. I feel like hearing it after ITLAOTE would be interesting as I feel they come from similar veins. Definitely a big departure from In Dream as its been said in interviews, you can tell there is a 'heavier' sound of on this record. More to come

Easily a top 3 Editors album for me. Love the more 'pop' tracks - the first half of the album I had on whilst making dinner and it was great to dad-dance around the kitchen to.
The only track I wasn't sold on first listen was 'Counting Spooks' - really liked all the other tracks. Never expected something like 'Belong' on this album - sounds so different to anything from before! Violence, Cold, Nothingness and Magazine really stood out to me. Also think I prefer this version of The Pulse to the live one.
