Heavily influenced by the weather and the fact that ITLAOE has always sounded perfect to me when the dark nights set in, leaves are on the ground, and there is a chill in the air. Todays fog / mist made for particularly good listening.

ITLAOTE and In Dream, because I'm primarily a Depeche Mode and more electronic music fan and found out about Editors through ITLAOTE (because Flood was producing and he produced the masterpiece Violator).

Nice poll!
I voted TBR and ID.
ITLAOTE is my all time favourite, but TBR was the very first one I fell in love with Eds and ID is the first one that made me fall in love with Eds part deux.

ITLAOTE > AEHAS + TBR > TWOYL + ID AEHAS and TBR are on the same level for me, but I picked the first one for the poll. Still undecided if ID is better than TWOYL, as far as one can compare them. ID has a better overall vibe to it, but hasn't got epic highlights like Sugar (an all-time favorite of mine), Nothing (full band pl0x) or Two-Hearted Spider that the for the rest pretty poppy and less exciting TWOYL does have. So again a tough choice there. I'm not saying ID or TWOYL are bad albums by the way. I just say that ITLAOTE is freaking amazing

The Back Room and ITLAOTE
The Back Room because it got me into them and ITLAOTE because I liked that tour best. It was the first time I really started wondering about what they would play and which songs they would leave out. Even thought they made the wrong picks a few times I still enjoyed that period best.

ITLAOTE AEHAS
TBR quite possibly a stronger album but these two albums were realised at a time when I was a fully fledged fan and both engaged me from totally different angles. ITLAOTE in fact took far longer to fully appreciate but I was so hooked on papillon, then B&M that I couldn't get enough of the band, and found it just got better as you go.
I think ID is a far better album than TWOYL. The production choices on the latter were terrible. I really like some of the songs (formaldehyde, phone book , bird of prey) , but just if some decisions had of went another way it could have been much better IMO ofcourse...I think its mainly a consistency thing the first 3 albums vs the last 2. With the former I felt like the songs were very carefully developed to fit quality and direction the band were seeking. With the latter, I feel like every song Tom brings to the table is going on the album come hell or high water, where in fact sometimes they may better served in a future side project for example. i.e This ain't new jersey is an absolutely brilliant but was perfectly placed as a side project. I think some of these directional decisions for the band are getting confused since Chris left......Way off topic I can't help myself can I ??!!

Interesting opinion
I think I would appreciate What Is This Thing Called Love, Forgiveness and maybe a few other songs as well a whole lot more if they were kept for side/solo projects of Tom.

Interesting opinion I think I would appreciate What Is This Thing Called Love, Forgiveness and maybe a few other songs as well a whole lot more if they were kept for side/solo projects of Tom. Yeah I agree. I think WITTCL is the obvious example. I remember my first listen to the album I was so excited to have them back. 3 tracks in I was super impressed given all that had occurred, but that track was too diverse for the prior scene set. Yes it meets the theme of love but far contrasting. I also can appreciate it in its own right in terms of Tom as a song writer but felt it confused the album and myself. With ID I think I read in an interview (correct me if I'm wrong), no harm was the first song recorded, and they sensed straight away where they wanted to go with this album. Yet if I listen as an album I don't experience this direction intent at all (with the exception of highlighting again I think it works better than TWOYL). Most the tracks are synth orientated for sure, but the diversity of sound that can be created with synth is obviously unlimited so I don't understand when this album is compared as a natural progression to ITLAOTE purely on it being more electronic than the previous album. ID seems to me extremely diverse in terms of style, production and theme. 'In dream' is a perfect description in fact so maybe they sense this also. Some great songs but struggle with it as an album.

I must say those were my first thoughts on In Dream as well, like it was more a collection of songs, they seemed too diverse to be on the same album. But then I heard the songs live played together with the old songs, and it all makes sense to me now. Of course synth is very ITLAOTE sounding, but for example, tracks like Forgiveness or idk Salvation, remind me more of TWOYL. So I just find this album to be a natural progression to both of the previous albums.

Have no doubts the live shows are awesome so can appreciate where you are coming from. I still think this album is a real mixed bag in direction, and it would have been better for the new lineup to stamp a real direction (whatever that may be), as opposed to bits and pieces of past influences. Much of the synth on this album for me is used for a more pop direction so contrasts ITLAOTE. I like most the tracks in their own right (notable exceptions are probably life is a fear in disco production, all the kings in coldplay production) , more how they gel together as one.
