Since there's at least one Arcade Fire song on the new Coldplay album, you're not really helping your argument.
(Also, Ocean Of Night is Elbow. It worries me that even the Coldplay girl on here keeps saying Ocean Of Night sounds like Coldplay when it's clearly Elbow.)

I'm not a big enough Coldplay fan to know that - opinion formed well before any news of a new album. Not sure about elbow, maybe. I can't hear past the steel drum delivery and keep relating to here comes the night possibly for that in itself.

The piano is so Coldplayish (I mean, that intro. When I heard it for the first time I thought wait, are they playing a Coldplay song now? And the percussion reminds me of the Viva La Vida era. The vocals are more Elbow than Coldplay though. Coldplay meets a bit (but only a bit!!) of Elbow. But it's an Editors song. This is probably why I like it so much.

Hmmm ok fair enough. I guess there's just a lot of overlap between Coldplay, Elbow and Editors these days, when they want it anyway.

Loved the first 2 LPs. Great band obviously. Lost me somewhere after that. Loads of talent but with the shift to being possibly the biggest band in the world I think the focus of the music somewhat shifted accordingly. Still like some of the newer tracks here and there but don't follow as closely these days. The subtle bass line in magic was superb. Still think they are creative in the world of popular pop, just doesn't grab as it used to.

The rollout for the new album has been a rollercoaster thus far. I don't know what to expect. Hoping for the best and expecting the worst, as they say.

I’m actually in shock. Orphans is just the perfect pop song, I haven’t felt so elated by Coldplay since Strawberry Swing. And Arabesque is what I’ve been wanting them to do for 10 years. I was hoping they’d improve after AHFOD but I never expected it to be this good. Makes up for the disappointment of hearing Upside Down today. Sorry guys

while coldplaying.com is down, let me just say on here holy fuck what is happening. It's 2019, Coldplay released an album and there are only 2 songs on it I don't really like?? Trouble In Town, Arabesque and Champion Of The World must be among their best work, and the entire Sunset half is so strong. Only the title track just sounds 'okay' but that's probably because it comes after Champion Of The World.
I can't believe Arabesque is a real Coldplay song. SAME FUCKING BLOOD!!
The only songs I feel like skipping most of the time are Church and When I Need A Friend.

Interesting we don't have a Coldplay thread given our admin is a regular on their board. Anyway they have a new album called A Head Full of Dreams which is probably going to come out early next year. They've played a new song called Amazing Day at the Global Citizen fest and it's ok imo. After a few listens, I really like this new Coldplay song, but I probably still like his older songs the most.
